News Flash: Once again, several of my images were selected for Cowboys & Indians annual photo contest: "Photographing the West". Check out Sunset Dispute, Shoshone Sneak Up Dance, and Prairie Warriors. “Photography with an artist's touch!” I guess it was inevitable. After years of shooting standard photographic images, my training in fine art started pulling me in a different direction. Eventually, straight photos began to look like “just photos”! I began experimenting with adding various painterly effects, multiple exposures, and textured overlays to my initial photo captures. Once I shed the shackles of “pure photography”, my images became even more captivating & memorable. By eliminating distractions, simplifying the layout, and adjusting tonal values and saturation, I can guide the viewer's eye to the important subject matter in an image. I don't feel bound to show what I initially saw—but strive to deliver a finished image the way I want the viewer to experience it! At least to my way of thinking, this is the difference between an “artist” and a photographer. Mike Jackson - Jackson Hole, WY |
