Gallery 4: Moose

Moose inhabit the river bottoms in the summer and can often be found in the sage flats in early winter. Bulls start growing their antlers in late spring and continue until the beginning of the rut when they rub the velvet off on trees and shrubs. By early January, they drop their antlers and the cycle repeats.

Cow moose seem to disappear in the spring to have their calves. Getting photographs can be tough and risky. By late fall, the youngsters will have grown quite a bit and the cow will be at least a little more tolerant of humans.
