Gallery 6 Verticals: Elk & Deer

Elk and mule deer can be spotted in many areas around Jackson Hole and throughout most of Yellowstone. White-tailed deer can be found occasionally along some river bottoms. Elk are common just north of the town of Jackson all winter, found mainly in the National Elk Refuge. During the rest of the year, they scatter around the region and are best seen early in the morning or late in the evening.

In the Jackson Hole and Teton areas, elk and deer are often leary of approaching humans. Unlike the mores trusting game in Yellowstone, some of these animals have been hunted and keep their distance.
